Doctors Duke it Out at Cancer Wellness Reception
Thursday, May 10, 2012 marked the date for the First Annual Piedmont Cancer Wellness Physician Reception. Great conversation, expertly prepared food and a head-to-head cook-off made the reception nothing short of entertaining. Piedmont Cancer Institute's Dr. Martin York and Dr. Eric Mininberg duked it out in a friendly cook-off as they prepared two delicious, yet healthy springtime dishes. Taking off their lab coats and exchanging them for aprons, the two physicians wowed the crowd with their culinary prowess.
Dr. York selected Chef Lea Bowen as his teammate, and Dr. Mininberg partnered with his former patient and renowned chef, Chef Nancy Waldeck. “I loved Chef Nancy's comment, ‘This time I will be telling my doctor what to do’- and everyone laughed”, said Cancer Wellness Director, Carolyn Helmer. Her enthusiasm continued as she explained, “I always enjoy having the Oncologists visit Cancer Wellness, but their participation in the cook off was so over the top and it was great to see them have some fun too”.
The Cancer Wellness Reception brought physicians together to experience the abundance of opportunities available to patients and their families. Dr. Mininberg described Cancer Wellness as “a great place to bring patients and care providers together over a common interest: good and healthy food!” The cooking demonstrations are just one of the many complimentary services offered to help cancer patients transition back into their normal lives.
All in all, the doctors enjoyed learning more about the comprehensive care offered to their patients while enjoying each other’s company and delicious food. This event truly was a Celebration of Spring Eats.
