Jonathan C. Bender is a physician at Piedmont Cancer Institute, P.C. in AtlantaJonathan C. Bender, MD was born in Springfield, Ohio. He graduated Magna cum laude from Wittenberg University with a degree in biology and obtained his medical degree from the Ohio State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a three-year fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at James Cancer Institute and OSU Medical Center. Dr. Bender is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is Board certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology.

Dr. Bender is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. In 1987 and 1991 he received the State of Ohio Regents Scholarship for Undergraduate and Medical School. Before attending medical school, he served as a volunteer in the US Peace Corps in the Philippines. In 1991 he was a research fellow at the National Cancer Institute. He also received the Wittenberg University Achievement Award in 1991, the Amgen Fellowship Award in 1999 and the Rhone-Poulene Rorer Fellowship Grant in 1999 and 2000. He has numerous publications and abstracts in Hematology and Oncology. He is actively involved in clinical research trials.

Dr. Bender currently serves as Medical Director of the Piedmont Fayette Hospital Cancer Center.  He has also served as Section Chief of Hematology and Oncology, Chairman of the Cancer Committee and Chairman of Continuing Medical Education at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville, Georgia. He holds memberships with the American and Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology, The American College of Physicians and the American Society of Hematology.

Dr. Bender joined Piedmont Cancer Institute, P.C. in 2001. He has two children, Nicolas and Julia and he loves cooking for friends and family. Dr. Bender is a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
