Samantha Shams, MD
After completing her fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Moffitt Cancer Center of the University of South Florida, Dr. Samantha R. Shams returned to her hometown of Atlanta to join Piedmont Cancer Institute.
Dr. Shams attended the University of Georgia, graduating magna cum laude with high honors. She earned her medical degree at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, GA. It was here Dr. Shams developed an interest in both hematologic and oncologic disease. She completed her post-graduate training with an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University, graduating with a distinction in teaching. Her passion for the medical sciences, excellence in research and commitment to medical education culminated in a prestigious grant in affiliation with the Harvard Macy Medical Educators Program in Boston, MA.
Today, Dr. Shams’ focus is on translating her medical knowledge to give patients cutting-edge cancer treatments, while never losing sight of their humanity. Her own personal interests include cooking, yoga, travel and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Shams is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology and American Board of Internal Medicine. Her credentials and practice are enhanced by the individualized, compassionate cancer care at Piedmont Cancer Institute.
