Community of Care Support Groups
Support groups play an important role in helping people cope with cancer by providing emotional, mental, and social support during a difficult time. Patients often experience fear, stress, and loneliness, but being part of a support group allows them to connect with others who understand their struggles firsthand. These groups create a safe environment where individuals can share experiences, ask questions, and encourage one another.
Support groups can also provide helpful information about treatments, side effects, and coping strategies, which can reduce anxiety and improve confidence. Social workers are trained to facilitate a variety of support groups, ensuring that patients and their families receive compassionate guidance and meaningful support throughout their cancer journey. "Our Social Work department goes above and beyond to ensure patients and their families feel supported, informed, and cared for," says Erika Flippin, LMSW, OSW-C. In addition, family members and caregivers may benefit from support groups because they also face emotional challenges while caring for loved ones with cancer. Overall, support groups help improve emotional well-being, build hope, and remind patients that they are not alone in their journey.
PCI patients can easily enroll in our support groups by following the "Learn More" links or by expressing interest to a PCI staff member.
