PCI Doctors Give Inspirational Speech at Community Event
The Breast Cancer Survivors’ Network hosted their 3rd annual Breast Cancer 1 Day Walk on March 24, 2012. The event’s opening ceremony began at 9am on Saturday morning and consisted of a walk around Lake Peachtree at Picnic Park in Peachtree City. Over 600 people attended the event and the Breast Cancer Survivors’ Network raised over $60,000. All the proceeds from the 2012 Breast Cancer 1 Day Walk will benefit breast cancer patients and programs offered by the Breast Cancer Survivors’ Network.
Invited guest speakers included Dr. Jonathan Bender and Dr. Trevor Feinstein of Piedmont Cancer Institute (PCI). PCI showed their support and commitment to the community by becoming a sponsor of the Breast Cancer Survivors’ Network and welcoming the participants with an inspirational speech. Addressing a crowd of over 600 cancer patients, survivors, family members and friends, Dr. Bender and Dr. Feinstein’s speech encouraged the idea of family and community support. Dr. Bender began by saying, “Local events and community programs only survive with your support”. He then went on to say, “By being here today, you have made the commitment to give support and let your loved ones know that they will not stand alone on this journey”. Dr. Feinstein reiterated the importance of a strong support system by saying, “Breast cancer affects more than just one in eight women; it affects a family and it affects a community”. The dedication these two Oncologists provide their patients is a demonstration of PCI’s long-lasting commitment to the community and its members.
